Harry Gwala Development Agency (HGDA) Celebrate Women in a Business Seminar

It was a joyous day for women in the Harry Gwala District area who attended the celebration for women’s month, in a seminar by the Harry Gwala Development Agency (HGDA), today (29 August 2023), in IXopo. The HGDA is a agency that works with the Harry Gwala District municipality to foster development and investment in the Harry Gwala District. The agency in partnership with the KZN Film Commission to hosted a Women’s Day Seminar. The Seminar purpose was to celebrate and honour women in business, whilst advocating for women entrepreneurship within the Harry Gwala District in alignment with this year’s women’s month government theme ‘Women’s Socio-Economic Rights and Empowerment: Building Back Better for Women’s Improved Resilience.”The UBuhlebezwe Local Municipality, Deputy Mayor Cllr. Z.L Miya on her welcome and key note address said women should take all opportunities available to them. “We use this day to pay tribute to various notable women of our district. We build on their heroism and courage to push the struggle for women liberation forward so to grow Harry Gwala District together to advance women and girls empowerment and fight abuse. We must together continue to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards abuse. Women must take up space in exploiting economic opportunities. The saying that a woman’s place is in the kitchen is no longer applicable this day andAge so let not only focus on business that keeps us in the kitchen only but let us explore other business which were male dominated in the past,” said Deputy Mayor Cllr. Miya. The HGDA CEO, Ms. A. Whyte, in her address on purpose for having the women’s in business seminar, said it important that women in business get the necessary support and skills to assist them in business. Four businesses which are owned by women got the necessary financially assistance, with NM Squeky Clean from uMzimkhulu getting an assistant valued at R120 000.
