The Harry Gwala District Municipality in partnership with The Harry Gwala District Agency successfully conducted handovers where multiple business ventures benefited. The initiative commenced this morning, 11 August 2023 in Kokstad Franklin Cultural Village , and continued to Umzimkhulu SMME Facility, it then proceeded to Ofafa and was concluded at the Harry Gwala District Agency. The Mayor of Harry Gwala District Municipality, Cllr ZD Nxumalo with Cllr M.S.D Mdunge, the Speaker of Harry Gwala District Municipality and the COE of Harry Gwala District Agency, Ms ACR Whyte were received warmly by the Deputy Mayor of Greater Kokstad Municipality, Cllr K. Walker during the first segment of the handovers. This initiative intends to make funding and equipment available with the aim of ensuring that adequate support is provided for the promotion of sustainable emerging enterprises that exist within the district. Cllr J. Msiya joined the second segment in UMzimkhulu and the Mayor of Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality, Cllr B. E. Ngubo joined in at Ixopo. All representatives of local municipalities expressed enormous gratitude towards this initiative stating that; it will impact positively on the development of local businesses and economic growth. Miss Buhle Bhengu, a catering business owner from Kokstad, who is one of the beneficiaries said in her word of appreciation keynote; 'On behalf of all those that benefited today, 'I would like to thank the Harry Gwala District Agency for assisting us in growing our already functioning businesses . It is with great excitement to receive equipment that will maximize productivity and going forward we can only go bigger.'
