The KwaZulu Natal legislature kick started the Back-to-School programme in the Harry Gwala District at Indawana Secondary School (Umzimkhulu),accompanied by the Harry Gwala District Municipality to observe the school performance and functionality. The school has just over 700 learners and out of 48 pupils (Grade 12) who wrote their final exams, they managed to achieve a pass rate of 98% in the year 2024. Amongst dignitaries who attended were the District Speaker Cllr Sibongiseni Mdunge, Traditional leadership iNkosi Umsingaphansi and iziNduna, legislature officials, Department of Education officials, teachers, SGB members, parents and others. The Harry Gwala District Municipality Speaker Cllr S.D Mdunge was very pleased with the schools performance, He stated “As the District we believe and support that in 2025 the school will get 100% , however we have dictated that the school’s water needs attention. The district have assigned plumbers and water monitors to ensure clean and running water is delivered in this area,” Despite the challenges the school faces on a daily basis, teachers and learners strive for excellence against all odds. The school was also advised to give lower grades the same treatment and attention as much as they give grade 12 learners in order to maintain the good performance of the school as a whole. The programme then proceeded to Emtshibeni Secondary for the continuation of the school functionality and monitoring. Some of the challenges at the school Included overcrowding and lack of resources. The school received 100% pass rate for matric 2024. The program will continue to other school In the District tomorrow (24/01/2025).
