KZN COGTA MEC Expresses Condolences Following Tragic Drowning Incident in Umzimkhulu

The KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) MEC, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has expressed deep sadness following a tragic drowning incident in Umzimkhulu, where three people lost their lives during a ritual at the Ngwangwane River. The incident occurred in Ward 2 early Sunday morning at approximately 5:30 AM. The victims have been identified as: Boniwe Mzamani (30) Female Sisama Bhunge (20) Female Sphelele Dlamini (37) Male MEC Buthelezi has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. Reports from the Provincial Disaster Management Centre indicate the individuals were participating in a religious ritual when the tragedy occurred. Community members discovered the bodies yesterday and this morning and alerted the authorities. "This is a devastating loss, and my thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who perished," said MEC Buthelezi. "I urge all residents across the province to exercise extreme caution around rivers and other bodies of water, especially when engaging in activities that may pose a risk. Supervision is crucial, and we must all be mindful of the potential dangers."
