MAYOR CLLR. ZAMO NXUMALO OFFICIALLY HANDSOVER WATER TANK TRUCKS.

IN an effort to ensure that the Harry Gwala District Municipality finds a permanent solution in dealing head-on with Water and Sanitation challenges, the Municipality has taken a decision to enhance the municipal equipment with four water tanks for the purpose of speeding up services to the community. The four water tankers were officially handed over to the community on Tuesday (01-04-2025). The official handover turned eventful and brought happiness to the faces of local community members who also were also excited as the trucks will play a pivotal role in ensuring water to the people. The District Mayor, Cllr Zamo Nxumalo led his team of political leadership, managers, officials and some members of the community to witness the auspicious occasion. The Harry Gwala District Municipal Manager, Mr Gamakulu Sineke, Municipality Speaker, Cllr Sibongiseni Mdunge, Water Services Chairperson, Cllr Simphiwe Bekwa and Senior Management also could not hide their happiness, parallel to their rich, rhetoric, positive and constructive speeches as per their plans to win the battle of the water challenges being experienced in the District. Mayor Nxumalo said the occasion was an exciting time for the Municipality. “We are excited because the purchase of the water tankers emanates from our plans and decisions that we took during the Water Indaba that we should buy equipment to cut costs,” said Cllr Nxumalo. He added they will ensure the water tankers will be for good use and will also alert communities and other municipalities to report when they are being used for other things. He said this is a short-term intervention to meet water demand in the district while programmes and processes to resolve water challenges are underway. “The programme of springs protection and boreholes is at hand in order to provide clean water”, said Cllr Nxumalo. He said the vision is that no one should be without water. As Water Services Authority (WSA) and Water Services Provider (WSP) in the Harry Gwala District it is duty and responsibility to ensure the provisioning of water and sanitation services throughout the district. The four tankers contain 18 000 Litres of water each and will be dispatched to our local municipalities such as UMzimkhulu, Ubuhlebezwe and Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. Tanker Trucks as short-term intervention in provisioning of water to areas that have partially and non-functional water schemes. The four Water tank trucks have been procured by district municipality utilizing internal funds to in a form of implementing one of the Water Indaba Resolutions to address water provisioning and challenges. It was held on 16 July 2024 at Ubuhlebezwe Council Chambers in-Ixopo. The total costs of all four trucks amounts to a total of R 11 732 891,79. Their capacity has however been augmented to accelerate service delivery and be able to deliver water to three villages simultaneously or in a short space of time. The allocations were as follows: - 1 Truck in Umzimkhulu, 1 Truck in UBuhlebezwe and 2 trucks in Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
